The Formula Student, 2011
70 students, 80 norelem elements. One racing car. A success story.
Featuring optimised technology and improved design, this racing car faced a hand-picked jury which selects the best all-round package from the best student teams at the "Formula Student" competition. Every year, the international construction and design competitions prove to the public just how exciting and innovative the art of engineering can be.
In 2011 norelem again supported young student engineers at the University of Applied Sciences in Esslingen in designing and constructing "Stallardo".

"40 cylinder head bolts were fastened onto the chassis and frame in the Stallardo ’10 and Stallardo ’11. We were looking for suitable bolts in quality class 12.9 – the quality had to be excellent, that's why norelem was the right partner".

We fitted the cardan joint into the steering column. We actually planned to install a double cardan joint. After we installed the double cardan joint, we noticed there was too much play and so we opted for 2 single cardan joints. We then did some re-tuning to reduce the weight: we drilled holes through the cardan joint! It was still stable and ran perfectly“.

"We protected our cardan joints by deploying a rubber cover from norelem. The cardan joint is thus protected from dust, lubricants do not leak and the protective cover also helps to keep the joint in position“.

"We fitted 4 rubber-metal buffers onto the tank. The tank cannot be connected to the car's body as this can cause the body to twist and distort while driving and can damage the tank (vibration fractures)“.
