EpOS – the electric mountainboard

Three students from the Bochum University of Applied Sciences have developed an electric mountainboard as part of their Master's, Bachelor's and project work. The aim of this project was to develop a 4-wheel drive, off-road skateboard.
For the electric mountainboard, or EpOS for short, three students in the fields of software, hardware and mechanical engineering banded together and chose the design for each of their respective final assignments and project work. The e-mountainboard features four-wheel drive, with each wheel being powered by a separate motor.

Alongside two inverters, an interface module was also developed which gives the user the ability to switch a transaction control unit on and off. Furthermore, the user can choose between different operating modes, i.e. by controlling acceleration and maximum speed.

A built-in flexible stabiliser ensures that users of every skill level are able to ride the EpOS.

The e-mountainboard weighs 18.5 kg, has a range of around 20 km with a battery capacity of 15 Ah. The unit has an output of around 1.4 kW, which equates to about 2 horsepower. Its top speed is electronically limited to 30 km/h.
