Device to optimise the posture

As part of her thesis at the HTL Waidhofen Mrs Feuerschlager developed a device to optimise the posture. Apart from the design, the model was also implemented in the practice and a prototype was built. norelem supported this work as main sponsor.
Assignment / Objective
A device should be developed where the human body can move while maintaining an optimal posture (straight and upright). This allows the body to be erect and stretched during training. Ideally, the muscles would be trained for an improved posture. An electric drive or braking system should be developed to allow movement with erect posture at various performance levels (selection on display).
The movement with optimal posture leads to advantages such as: good posture, positive aura, body toning, fat burning, stress reduction, improved reactions and balance, alleviation of neck and lumber complaints, strengthening of the heart and circulation, improving the quality of life,.......
Realisation:
Horizontal movement takes place through the toothed belt unit which is connected to two footplates over guide elements (leg movement).
The footplates and the tubes for arm movement are pulled in opposite directions alternately outward or inward by the toothed belt unit.
Power assistance to attain movement in various performance levels is selected over the control unit.
The circuit board with the required electronic components (power electronics, micro controller,...) was self-developed and is fully integrated into the control unit.
The control unit has a display with capacitive touch-screen technology allowing the selection over a menu of various performance levels.
During the designing stage, apart from the function and ergonomic form, high value was also set on an attractive optical design. For instance, the shape of the control unit was chosen to match the curved form of the device. To achieve this, the housing was specially manufactured by 3D printer. The cover was custom-made by laser.
